Precious Metals & Origin

A ring does not begin at the workbench. The origin, composition and continued use of its material are part of its story.

Suitable customer gold can be processed directly at MVH. Precious metal that is not used directly or is purchased by us is returned to the recycling cycle. We source additional precious metals and alloys from C.HAFNER, a German gold and silver refinery with its own precious-metal recycling operation.

Three paths

What can happen to existing precious metal.

01

Process it directly

Suitable customer gold is assessed, melted and used directly as the starting material for the new rings. Its fineness, composition and quantity must be appropriate for the intended piece.

02

Credit its value

Precious metal that is unsuitable or not required can be valued according to its precious-metal content and credited against the order. In this case, it does not become part of the new rings.

03

Purchase and recycle it

MVH also purchases gold and other suitable precious metals. The material is recorded, valued and returned to a professional recycling process.

Additional material

When customer gold is not sufficient.

Sometimes the existing material is unsuitable, the quantity is insufficient or a particular alloy is required. We add the material needed for the planned piece in the appropriate alloy.

We source these precious metals and alloys from C.HAFNER. The company recovers precious metals from secondary material in its own recycling process and processes them into refined metals, semi-finished products and alloys.

Recycling describes the material cycle; it does not automatically identify a specific geographical origin. Because material from different suppliers is combined, C.HAFNER itself makes no general claim about the original geographical source of every metal component.

Verifiable sources

Where do our precious metals come from?

Suitable customer gold can be processed directly into your new rings. Precious metal that is not used directly or is purchased by us is returned to the recycling cycle. We source additional precious metals and alloys from C.HAFNER, a German gold and silver refinery with its own precious-metal recycling operation.

C.HAFNER states that no mined material is used in its own recycling process. It processes both material from industrial production and processing, and precious metals that have already been used. Supplier and material monitoring follows requirements including those of the LBMA, LPPM, RJC and OECD.

In brief

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my existing gold be processed directly?

Suitable customer gold of the required fineness can be used directly. We first assess its composition, quantity and suitability for the rings you are planning.

What happens if I do not have enough material?

The missing quantity is added in a suitable alloy. The appropriate alloy depends on the existing material and the desired ring.

Does MVH purchase gold?

Yes. Gold and other suitable precious metals can be sold to MVH. The valuation is based on weight, fineness and the current precious-metal price. The material is then returned to the recycling cycle.

Is recycled precious metal lower in quality?

No. After professional separation and refining, the precious metal once again has a defined purity and can be processed into high-quality alloys.
