Mokume Gane owes its Japanese names to the organic appearance.

Mokume = holzmaserung

Gane = metal

The material of the Mokume Gane results from welding of thin plates of different metals.

A "mixture" of the metal molecules at the grain boundaries of the contact surfaces is caused with heat and pressure. Thus a new molecular crystal structure develops.

Melting the thin plates takes place at a temperature little below the melting point interval of the metals. Thus it comes to an eutectic connection of both metals.

The characteristic samples are obtained during the subsequent treatment by different methods: Drill, files, burin, drill etc..
